How long have you been in business? How long is a lifetime membership?

KnowledgeNews has been delivering unique knowledge-based emails for more than 5 years. The parent business, Meridian Communications, has been around for 10 years, since 1997, dedicated throughout to creating the highest quality communications around. Meridian Communications recently changed names and is now Every Learner, Inc. Unlike a lot of the old dot-coms, we're a true small Business--focused on sustainability and organic growth. (You can find out more about our small team here.)

Let me assure you that we have no plans to go away. However, since Mama always said that anything can happen, we work hard to deliver $39 worth of value right off the bat. As soon as you become a member, we provide you with access to our four ebooks: World Tour, Americana, SciencePhiles, and Almanac. Even if we stop sending mail tomorrow (again, no plans to), our ebooks still has hundreds of timely and relevant KnowledgeNews features for you--far more than $39 worth of information. We also work hard to keep our lifetime fee low. While some sites may ask as much as $400 for a lifetime membership (I've seen this price), we believe in keeping things affordable--and so lessening your risk.

Why am I not receiving KnowledgeNews?

This is usually a filtering issue. Try the steps below, and contact us if that doesn’t help.

  1. Look in your bulk/junk mail box for KnowledgeNews issues. They may be going there.

  2. Add our email address – info@knowledgenews.net – to your address book, contact list, or approved senders list. If we are being filtered, that should stop it.

Is it okay to forward the newsletter?

Permission granted--we call that spreading the word. We ask only that you forward the email whole, with all our marks intact, so that people know where it came from.

Is there a search feature on the website?

It’s coming! We plan to add a search feature in the near future to allow you to easily locate other articles found in our archives. In the meantime, I am happy to help you locate an article. We’re actually waiting on our web host to release their latest version which will include search. I just checked their site to see what kind of progress they are making with the updates, and it looks like they expect to release a beta version this month. I don’t know if we’ll use the beta version or not, it will depend on how stable they expect it to be.

Why aren’t the images showing in the email?

Here are couple of suggestions that might help us take care of this:

  1. Do you by any chance download your email and read it offline? If you're not connected to the internet while reading, the images won't show up because they aren't embedded; they're served when you open the email.

  2. If you are connected to the internet while reading, you might try adding our mailing address, info@knowledgenews.net, to your email contacts list.

Lots of people's email programs (whether they know it or not) block images from unrecognized senders to help stop spam and prevent viruses. Program specific instructions can be found below.

Outlook
Outlook Express
Lotus Notes
Thunderbird/Mozilla Mail
Mac Mail
Entourage
Yahoo

Outlook:

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Under the Tools menu, select Options.
  3. Under Options, select the Security tab.
  4. Under Download pictures, click Change Automatic Download Settings button.
  5. Under Automatic Picture Download Settings, removed the check from the box that says Don't download pictures or content automatically in HTML email.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click OK.

Outlook Express:

  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. Under the Tools dropdown menu, select Options.
  3. Under Options, select Security.
  4. Under Security, uncheck the box that says Block images and other external content and click Apply.
  5. Click OK.

Lotus Notes:

  1. Edit the Current Location document; on the Internet Browser tab, enter "Notes" for Internet Browser instead of "Notes with Internet Explorer".
  2. Enter "from Notes workstation" for Retrieve/open pages.
  3. Open an email with the red rectangles problem. Now the pictures will download correctly, and the red rectangles are not shown.

Thunderbird/Mozilla Mail:

  • For images embedded in messages: make sure that the setting for "View -> Message Body As" is set to either "Original HTML" or "Simple HTML".
  • For images attached to messages: go to the "View" menu and make sure that "Display Attachments Inline" is checked.
  • For remote images: go to "Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Privacy" and uncheck the box for "Block loading of remote images in mail messages." It is recommended that you keep this checked as your default setting, however, as spammers can use remote images to detect whether you've viewed messages they've sent to you.
  • Messages marked as Junk are normally "sanitized", meaning that they are displayed without any images or other HTML formatting. To change this behavior, go to "Tools -> Junk Mail Controls", click on the "Settings" tab, and uncheck the box for "When displaying HTML messages marked as Junk, sanitize the HTML".

Mac Mail:

  1. Go to Mail.
  2. Go to Preferences.
  3. Go to Viewing.
  4. Place a check mark in 'Display images and embedded objects in HTML messages.'

Entourage:

  1. Go to Edit.
  2. Go to Preferences.
  3. Go to Mail and News.
  4. Make sure 'Display complex HTML in messages' and 'Allow network access when displaying complex HTML' are checked.
  5. Go to File
  6. Make sure Work Offline is unchecked.

Yahoo:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. Click on options at the top right.
  3. Click on Spam Protection.
  4. Under image blocking, there are three options:
    • Don't block any images
    • Block images in messages that SpamGuard thinks are spam
    • Block all images until I've had a chance to look it over
  5. Choose one of the three options

If you have it set as the second one, images will only be blocked in emails that are in the bulk mail folder. If you have it as the third option, images will be blocked and there should be a link in the email to show them. We recommend the second setting because spyware can be embedded in spam as small images. If that is the option you have selected, then try adding info@knowledgenews.net to you contacts list. That will insure that our mailings end up in your inbox. Usually mail from addresses in your address book is considered safe and images are automatically displayed.
